Nationwide 120 people were arrested for child human trafficking with a total of 84 children rescued.
The youngest was 3 months and the oldest was 15. The FBI conducts an annual law enforcement action program focused on recovering underage victims of prostitution and trafficking dubbed "Cross Country" In October 2017 the operation involved 58 FBI field offices as well as hundreds of local and state law enforcement agencies in an investigation that took place in hotels, casinos, truck stops, street corners and online, the FBI said. Authorities from Canada, Britain, Thailand, Cambodia and the Philippines also were involved.
I would like to point out a few concerns:
1) Operation "Cross country" is only a four day out of a 365 day year law enforcement program.
2) 120 is a high number and one cannot imagine what the numbers would be if they did this all year long. They do not stop investigations, but this particular operation is only four days.
3) Because this is a known annual operation, the main traffickers would know this and keep a low profile during this time. Are the people who are getting arrested the offenders who were not aware of the operation taking off, shall I say amateurs in the human trafficking scene?
The 3-month-old girl and her 5-year-old sister were rescued in Denver after a friend of their family had offered to sell the two children for $600, the FBI said in a statement. Officials are working with a protective services agency to house the two girls; a suspect has been arrested. (Washington Post: Operation Cross Country )
