You know, as a journalist for so long and watching the news agencies publish stories as facts without fact checking to twist reality on events has been criminal to say the least.  You know, when weapons of mass destruction was by intelligence 'found in Iraq', I went to find them.  I did not.  There was not a story. Yet, with my feet on the ground and camera in hand, the non-story was not a story that I could survive on.  (That's another story).  After the incurision into Iraq and billions of dollars later with many deaths, the US admited that they made a mistake and there were not any wepons of mass destruction.  You know the only news agency that retracted and apologized  to the world was the BBC.

Bravo, then for the BBC.  Now it is time that McClatchy offeres a huge apology to the American people for their spin on the Russian scandal that costs millions of dollars and 2 years later, there is zero evidence.  The millions....#McClatchy....could have been spent on the growing addiction problem we have in America for rehabs that are accessible, on single moms living below poverty and...working full time...changing the laws for livable wages, for affordable medicine...Millions all based on lies.

Yep, a good paper....forgot to fact check a well known reporter for a very long...time. There have been other reporters (well known) and photographers found to fabricate stories, the same stores that give them the 'fame'. Some of these are the NY Times, Washington Post and CNN. Some...have even won awards for the very same fabricated stories. It is a sad day that greed and reporting competition causes one to misrepresent important news events to the public. You know, totally against journalism ethical codes.

AS IT IS THE GERMAN TENDENCY to have a single noun for specific, even obscure concepts, there is a word for the relationship between a journalistic outfit and its readership. Leserbindung, the bond between reader and journalist, is the value that Der Spiegel, the German weekly news magazine, now finds itself desperately trying to salvage. The week before Christmas, Der Spiegel announced that it had a dishonest reporter in its midst. The week prior, the magazine’s editors became aware that one of its star reporters, Claas Relotius, 33, had fabricated award-winning stories about Turkey, Syria, Guantanamo, the US, and elsewhere. “We are deeply sorry about what has happened. We have a large readership which can now be forgiven for wondering if Der Spiegel should still be trusted,” writeSteffan Klusmann and Dirk Kurbjuweit, the editor in chief and the deputy editor in chief, respectively. As MEEDIA, the German media oversight publication, writes, “The damage that Claas Relotius has done to the Spiegel brand cannot yet be measured.” 

Relotius’s deception came to light after he had worked for the magazine for some seven years, publishing close to 60 stories. In late 2018, he was assigned to co-author a story with Juan Moreno, a freelancer for Der Spiegel, that was published in November as “Jaeger’s Border.” The idea was to offer a dual account of the migrants making their way toward the Mexico-US border and the vigilante militants poised to receive them. Moreno quickly became suspicious: Relotius said he preferred to work alone; that his protagonist, a member of a militia known to refuse journalists, consented to have Relotius cover his violent, even criminal behavior, only to shy away from being photographed. Moreno spoke to Relotius, raising the possibility that Relotius had been lied to by his source, not imagining that Relotius had fabricated his work. Relotius ignored him and, in mid-November, as the story was about to go to press, Moreno relayed his concerns to his editors, who initially waved them away. Soon thereafter, Moreno, who was on assignment in Las Vegas, surreptitiously traveled to Arizona to meet Relotius’s supposed sources and found that they had never spoken to him. Who doesn’t want faster, bigger (or smaller), more efficient? Take wireless mobile telecommunications. Our current broadband cellular network platform, 4G (or fourth generation), allows us to transmit data faster than 3G and everything that preceded. We can access information faster now than ever before in history. What more could we want? Oh, yes, transmission speeds powerful enough to accommodate the (rather horrifying) so-called  Internet of Things. Which brings us to 5G.

Until now, mobile broadband networks have been designed to meet the needs of people. But 5G has been created with machines’ needs in mind, offering low-latency, high-efficiency data transfer. It achieves this by breaking data down into smaller packages, allowing for faster transmission times. Whereas 4G has a fifty-millisecond delay, 5G data transfer will offer a mere one-millisecond delay–we humans won’t notice the difference, but it will permit machines to achieve near-seamless communication. Which in itself  may open a whole Pandora’s box of trouble for us – and our planet.  MORE

1. Established ill health from cellphone towers

Since the 1950s some countries have adopted biological limits. These and others have long-term rather than heating limits to cellphone tower (mobile phone mast) radiation. They also often restrict the towers to locations at least 500 meters from people’s residences.

Other countries, however, have not yet adopted biological limits and still keep to the old 6-minute heating limits proposed in the USA military in the 1950s, declared ‘obsolete’ by the European Union parliament in 2009. The USA’s FCC still has these heating limits, as does the WHO’s ICNIRP, still used by, for instance, the UK. Heating limits, averaged over six minutes, are irrelevant to long-term exposure experienced by residents living near to cellphone towers.

Since heating limits were devised by the FCC and ICNIRP:

• This cellphone radiation has been classified as a 2B possible carcinogen.
• 80% of medical studies show increased rates of cancer, up to 4 or 5 times, for residents within 300-400 metres of a tower. 
• Medical studies show typical electrosensitivity symptoms near towers. 
• Other studies have associated nearby towers and similar electromagnetic exposure with other neurological illnesses, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinsons, ADHD, autism etc. MORE

First Liberty Institute, a law firm that specializes in religious liberty cases, is representing Pastor Ken Hauge. The pastor has accused the management of The Evergreens at Smith Run of a pattern of verbal abuse and harassment directed at Christians who live in the complex.

“The threat of eviction follows repeated religious discrimination by The Evergreens management, including forcing Hauge to refer to his event as a ‘Book Review’ rather than a ‘Bible Study,’” First Liberty attorney Hiram Sasser wrote in a letter to the corporate owner of the community.

I reached out to Community Realty Company, the parent company of The Evergreens at Smith Run, and was referred to the apartment building manager. The manager did not return my phone call.

Sasser told the Todd Starnes Radio Show that management also withdrew support of a social event because a resident said grace over a meal. Sasser said the management also banned all religious activities from the community room. more...more...

Ode to five fine journalists

I am deeply saddened for the five lives lost at the newsroom Capital Gazette shooting in Annapolis, Md. These lives are, Gerald Fischman, 61, Rob Hiaasen, 59, John McNamara, Rebecca Smith 34, and Wendi Winters, 65.

As a reporter for a small-town print newspaper and this shooting hit close to home. Most small-town reporters do not get wealthy from our work, we do it because it is our passion. It is our passion to inform the community about what is going on, the new business, the possible new development in town, the 100-year-old birthday celebration and music in the streets. We report on local crime, arrests and possible corruption in the government. 

The small-town newspaper is not fake-news, it is as close as you can get to real news, we work under high ethical guidelines and double-check our facts. We work long hours and fight for print news hoping that it will not die. Where else can you get local news in one place?

The paper did its job, they reported on a person, Jarrod Ramos, with evidence of harassing women over social media, in court he pleaded guilty. Reporting on this, is not a crime, it is the news. We report on sex crimes all of the time, we report on drug arrests, and we report on murders. These facts are not defamation, but admitted, found guilty or brought into charge and public information. We report on these issues all of the time, it is normal and responsible.

It is said that Ramos made threats in 2013, a detective investigated the threats and the paper decided not to pursue criminal charges because it may exacerbate the situation. Ramos then took the issue to court and lost his round of appeals in 2016, claiming that he had been wronged by the paper. From 2011 to early 2016, Ramos waged war through social media, he tweeted 149 times at the Gazette’s official account, he mentioned the columnists Eric Hartley 201 times and a dozen named the newspaper’s former editor, Thomas Marquardt. Ramos mentioned that he would enjoy if the paper would cease publication, but nicer if both Hartley and Marquardt cease breathing in 2015.

Could the paper had done something different to prevent this brutal and hateful killing of its employees? Would the Capital Gazette have paid for an office security guard? What are the boundaries before taking preventative action as a reporter? I know that my newspaper would not spend the extra money on a security guard, even if threats continued for years. The small-town paper is working hard to stay afloat, or at least that is what they tell us. That is another story.

I can only be reminded of a time when I was reporting on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and received death threats. I took them seriously. I changed my publication name and used a pseudo name, kept my whereabouts unknown by changing my IP address often. It seemed to have worked, I am alive. One time, I even moved when the threats increased in both demeanor and became daily.

The problem is that it is difficult to know where to draw the line for safety as journalist. Do we just brush it off and say they will get over it as we think most people would? In America, we might get jailed for reporting on a protest, but we normally do not concern ourselves with getting shot. 

The mainstream news will make this all about gun control, once again. They take any gun event and blow it out of proportion, ignoring the fact that our moral fiber has been disintegrating for years. It is the fiber of our society that we should be concerned about, not gun control. 

It is the increased stress that Americans are under, and the 1% that control the 99% causing economic inequity, it is the non-livable wages, lack of time off, lack of medical benefits and the high cost of medicine causing hard working Americans to sell their homes when things go wrong to pay the medical bills. It is the fear of our lives being compromised, losing our jobs, working more hours for less pay and isolation due to social media and television. It is these things that are causing more than 24 percent of American who live under extreme stress. Eight in 10 American’s suffer from stress. Seven people every 2 seconds die from stress every year worldwide, that is 110 million people and that was 2013 data. This number of deaths more than that from guns.

Ramos was stressed. Stress leads to all kinds of negative physical symptoms, panic attacks, anxiety, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, fears, phobias, ulcers, overeating, smoking, alcohol and drug use. Ramos lost it. Stress causes anxiety, and anxiety can lead to violence and aggressive behavior in some people. Ramos did a bad thing, he messed up and as a result lost his job. He felt bullied because although he pleaded guilty, he did not take responsibility for what he did. He felt powerless. 

The paper missed the signs. The continual threats and harassment of the paper and the lashing out reflected that Ramos was at a breaking point. He was both angry and stressed and that is a toxic combination. Again, I say it is not the gun, it is the person behind the gun that is the concern. We in the journalist world has lost comrades due to the moth holes in the moral tapestry that once held our country together. I pray for their families, I pray for their loved ones, I pray for those who are still alive at the paper and I pray for America.

Man is this blog old but still used!

So funny how old my blogs are, I started when blogging first started and just kept going. I hope you don't mind the old, standard format. I've no time to re-invent the wheel and export and re-import all of the hundreds of articles in my blogs. I've always asked for volunteers, but never find any...really. You know, I was one of the first people on this planet to "blog" before blogging, these already formatted templates came into existence. I was also one of the "first" independent news folks covering on the Middle East crisis with my own silly HTML formatted pages, typed, each link designed, each page and the "tree" generated through dreamweaver.  wow. Times have changed and I still have no time.
Anyone want to help me put all of this together, one blog and website into something a bit more...modern?
Oh, just to help keep history alive and documented, you know.
I also have thousands of slides, film, and images on CD's that need to be "updated" onto something.
Oh, if independents like myself, only had a trust fund.

Israel has marched steadily away from reason and peace and towards the far right. A member of Parliament called for the beating of Ahed Tamimi, the young Palestinian girl who slapped a soldier after her cousin got shot in the face -- and the Defence Minister himself threatened punishing her entire family!

Israel’s military claims the protests were an invasion organized by Hamas, and that a few of the marchers were armed. These claims are disputed by Palestinian and international civil society and Israel has regularly lied to justify its actions. But even if they were true, why were 1300 people shot, hundreds of meters inside the fence? And why with live ammunition?!

And with Israel controlling the air and dug in behind fortifications, often with miles of empty desert behind them, what actual threat did the crowd possibly pose?! The Israeli regime’s hysterical fear and victimhood knows no bounds, and justifies any cruelty.

Gaza is actually the world’s largest open air prison, cut off and denied necessities for years by Israel. That’s the desperation that forced people to risk their lives in protest. But when the prisoners dared to approach their prison walls, their jailers shot them like fish in a barrel from safe perches hundreds of meters away.

Israel’s many enablers will knee-jerk accuse Avaaz and our many Jewish staff and leadership of hating Jews. But our team and our members love the Jewish people, as we love all people. The Holocaust was real, the Jewish community has long been horrifically oppressed and still faces anti-Semitism worldwide.

Many of those who founded Israel wanted it to be a beacon of a better way. But their vision has been betrayed, and Israel has come to be led by a brutally racist and repressive regime -- it deserves the world’s condemnation. Not just in words, but action:

Palestinian Lives Matter - Sanction Israel! 

Virtually every other tool has been tried, for decades, to encourage the Israeli regime to treat Palestinians better, and they just keep treating them worse. Targeted sanctions, covering things like Israeli blood diamonds, a boycott on arms sales (Israel sells weapons to some of the world's most brutal regimes) as well tech and cultural sanctions (like banning Israel from sporting events and the Eurovision song contest) may finally affect the calculus of the regime.

Two of the most dishonest and dangerous leaders in the world today are Donald Trump and Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu. Like extremists everywhere, they dream of a world where sensible people lose their judgment and are pulled into two warring camps, one of which is led by them. Let’s show them it won’t work -- that ordinary people won’t be sucked into their hate and propaganda, and that we can still see racism and brutality for what it is, and respond. That they can’t take our humanity from us, and we won’t let them succeed in taking freedom and dignity from the Palestinian people.

This is happening everywhere, it is time that someone stood up. Even my newspaper has been cutting people out. Imagine going from 73 journalists to 10, just imagine the workload or from 45 to 12. This is done anymore for profit and okay profit is okay..but at what expense? This compromises the integrity of the news, its workers and the people who read the news.  Mr. Alden, an investor who could care less about journalism integrity, made $160 million profit last year while the journalist become article mills with half-information, rushed deadlines and no breaks due to the cutbacks. It's called slavery and starvation for those who actually want to report well, real news.  Articles are in reality paper fillers to make an excuse for advertising and nothing more.  It's not about news, it's about profit.  Keep on keeping on Folks who work for Mr. Alden!  Read all about it below
